Dsup — Damage Suppressor protein — is a real DNA-binding protein unique to tardigrades. It coats the animal's chromatin and suppresses the DNA damage that radiation would otherwise cause. It is the molecular reason a half-millimeter animal survives doses that sterilize everything else.
It is also, without modification, the thesis of this protocol: a layer that sits over your position and suppresses the damage.

Dsup was first characterized in Ramazzottius varieornatus (Hashimoto et al., 2016), which is why that species anchors the collection's trait table in §10. It works by physically shielding chromatin from hydroxyl radicals rather than by repairing damage after the fact — closer to armor than to a medic, which is the more accurate metaphor for what this protocol tries to do to a position.
