The name

Dsup is the real protein that stops radiation from shredding a tardigrade's DNA — and the thesis for a layer that sits over your position and suppresses the damage.

Dsup — Damage Suppressor protein — is a real DNA-binding protein unique to tardigrades. It coats the animal's chromatin and suppresses the DNA damage that radiation would otherwise cause. It is the molecular reason a half-millimeter animal survives doses that sterilize everything else.

It is also, without modification, the thesis of this protocol: a layer that sits over your position and suppresses the damage.

Terminology used throughout, all of it real:

TermMeaning
TunThe dehydrated, barrel-shaped cryptobiotic state. Metabolism arrests; the animal is functionally not alive, and cannot be killed.
CryptobiosisThe state itself — reversible metabolic arrest with enhanced longevity and environmental resistance.
AnhydrobiosisCryptobiosis induced by drying, specifically.
VitrificationCells turn to glass. Tardigrade-specific disordered proteins condense into a glassy matrix that physically prevents biomolecules from moving, and therefore from denaturing.
LunuleThe crescent-shaped thickening at the base of a claw.
PlacoidCuticular rods in the pharynx. Shed and rebuilt at every molt.
SpecimenWhat we call the NFTs. Never "PFP".

No invented lore. The animal is stranger than anything we could make up.

Dsup was first characterized in Ramazzottius varieornatus (Hashimoto et al., 2016), which is why that species anchors the collection's trait table in §10. It works by physically shielding chromatin from hydroxyl radicals rather than by repairing damage after the fact — closer to armor than to a medic, which is the more accurate metaphor for what this protocol tries to do to a position.

DSUP is an experimental on-chain protocol. Distributions are rewards-program airdrops funded by protocol fee revenue — not corporate dividends, equity ownership, or shareholder rights. Token-bound account contents are controlled by the specimen owner and may be withdrawn or lose value at any time. Nothing here is financial advice.
